Across Indonesia's villa islands, a private-pool villa is the default rather than the exception. Most of the properties we review are walled-compound villas or part of a small villa resort, so you get the privacy of your own pool with hotel-style extras — daily breakfast, on-site staff, sometimes a butler, a spa or a restaurant on the grounds.
Sizes run wide. You'll find one-bedroom honeymoon villas and studios at one end, and multi-bedroom family villas that connect up to nine bedrooms for a group or a wedding party at the other. Private pools, tropical gardens and open-plan living are near-universal; beachfront, rice-terrace or clifftop settings depend on the region you choose.

Getting there is easiest through Bali's Ngurah Rai airport (DPS), with fast boats linking Bali to the Nusa Islands, the Gili Islands and Lombok. The best time to visit the southern villa islands is the dry season, April to October, with May, June and September the sweet spot for weather without peak-season prices.

The villa islands — Bali, Lombok and the Nusas — share one tropical pattern: a dry season (Apr–Oct) of prime beach weather and a wet season (Nov–Mar) of short afternoon downpours and lower prices. The value sweet spot is May, June and September — dry, but without the July–August or Christmas–New Year peak. Ubud and the highlands run a few degrees cooler and greener; Java's seasons differ again. Each region guide carries its own month-by-month chart.
For most travellers, Bali — it has the deepest villa choice and the easiest mix of beach, dining and culture. Within Bali, pick the area to the trip: Seminyak for beach clubs, Canggu for surf, Ubud for nature, Uluwatu for clifftops, Sanur for calm. Lombok, the Nusa Islands and Java suit quieter or more culture-led trips.
Bali's Ngurah Rai (DPS) is the main international gateway. Fast boats link Bali to the Nusa Islands, the Gilis and Lombok in under two hours; Java is a short domestic flight. Most villa trips base in one region rather than island-hop.
